How to create an A or CNAME record

To create an A and CNAME record, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to Google Domains.
  2. Click the domain you want to update.
  3. In the left navigation panel, click the DNS icon .
  4. Scroll to the Custom resource records section. Set the custom resource record type your web host requires.
  5. To create a specific type of record, follow these steps:
    1. For an A record, use these values:
      1. In the first field, enter "@" or the required subdomain.
      2. In the dropdown menu, select A.
      3. In the TTL field, enter "1H."
      4. In the data field, enter the IP address or addresses from your web host. 
        1. To add more fields, click .
      5. Click Add.
    2. For a CNAME record, use these values:
      1. In the first field, enter "www” or the required subdomain.
      2. In the dropdown menu, select CNAME.
      3. In the TTL field, enter "1H."
      4. In the data field, enter the data from your web host.
      5. Click Add.

How to update an A or CNAME record

To edit resource records, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to Google Domains.
  2. Click the domain you want to update.
  3. In the left navigation panel, click the DNS icon .
  4. Scroll to the Custom resource records section.
  5. You can update the data in 2 ways:
    1. To edit the data, click Edit. This will make all the records in the set editable.
    2. To add data, click Edit and then the  icon to add a resource record.
  6. Click Save.

Depending on your location, DNS changes may take a propagation period of several minutes or up to 48 hours to take effect across the entire internet.

How to delete a resource record

To delete resource records, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to Google Domains.
  2. Click the domain you want to update.
  3. In the left navigation panel, click the DNS icon .
  4. Scroll to the Custom resource records section.
  5. You can either delete all records in the set or just a single record.
    1. To delete a single record:
      1. Click Edit.
      2. Click the  icon next to the record you want to delete.
      3. Click Save.
    2. To delete all records in the set:
      1. Click Delete to delete all the records.
      2. On the popup, click Delete again to confirm.
